Give Back Sunday

This Sunday May 24th is our annual Give Back Sunday, and we have a few

different options that are social-distancing friendly

  • Support the Sandburg Pantry

We are collecting items for the Sandburg Pantry that are difficult for us to purchase for the pantry due to  limited quantities and purchase limits. If you are able to purchase any of these items, we have families on both the east and west side of town that are collecting the items for the pantry and will leave boxes on their front porch for donations to be placed in. The items needed are:

    Toilet Paper

    Sanitary Pads

Canned Tomatoes (sliced, diced, whole, etc.)

    Baby Wipes

    Canned Beans

    Tortillas (Corn of Flour)

To find out about porch drop-off locations of the items, email David at

  • Summer Kits for Kids

We have purchased a variety of fun things for kids including stickers, tattoos, sidewalk chalk, candy, and more. We are asking 4-5 families/individuals to volunteer to assemble the bags (we have supplies for 100 total — so you’d be responsible for 20-25 bags). David is available Saturday to swing by and drop off the supplies for the bags. Please contact David (email: if you would like to sign-up for this.

  • Sidewalk Art for Healthcare Workers

Draw/Write uplifting messages on sidewalks outside of Meriter, St. Mary’s, or UW Hospital. (For inspiration, see what kids did in Queensland, Australia.) If you’d like some more direction, here are specific site/parking options: UW: Park in Lot 60 (free on Saturday/Sunday or weekdays after 4:30) and go to the corner nearest the hospital; there are sidewalks here and the majority of hospital staff use lot 60 and the parking garage next to it. Meriter: There is parking on the side-streets bounded by Regent and Park Streets. The hospital is a just a short walk from there, and sidewalks run on all sides of Meriter. St. Mary's: You can park in the park/zoo lot near Lake Wingra on Vilas Park Drive, a short walk to St. Mary's.

Please keep alert to maintain distance as individuals walk past, as hospital employees and others will still be using these sidewalks. Take a picture of your efforts and send to

  • Red Cross Blood Drive

We are partnering with several other Madison churches to take part in a Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, May 28th. The Red Cross is currently facing blood shortages, and so donations are particularly valuable at this time. The drive will run from 1-6pm at Trinity United Methodist Church at 1123 Vilas Ave. To sign up you can email your name, address, preferred email, phone number, and desired appointment time(s); alternatively, you can sign up on the Red Cross’s website (search for Trinity UMC on Thursday, May 28). For more information about donating see the Red Cross’s FAQ page, or feel free to email David with other questions.
